Obituary of Joan Albers
Albers, Myra Joan
October 8, 1932 – March 18, 2024
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Myra Joan Albers (Reed) on Monday morning at her retirement home in Orillia, Ontario, with her youngest daughter at her side. Known by her middle name, Joan had a deep love for music, and an adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit. From phone operator in Sudbury, to an award-winning dairy farmer in Powassan, to renowned restaurant owner in Orillia, and manager of a foodbank in Etobicoke, Joan met challenges and opportunity with exuberance. Joan played her piano and multi-tiered organ on a daily basis in her home and was the organist for her church every Sunday for over 40 years. She was a spiritual woman of immense faith for which she was greatly loved and admired. Together with her husband, Joan served three missions in Canada for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joan’s legacy will continue on through her sons and daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan leaves behind daughter Susan (Bruce Laycock) with grandchildren Christel, Janelle, Stephanie (Ephraim Radzik), Jennifer (Ian Isackson), David (Christy Bennett), Katrina; and great grandchildren Liora, Eleanor, and Atreus Radzik, Hailey, Quinn, and Benjamin Isackson, Alexis, Flynn, Lydia, Vaila, and Lochlan Laycock, and Xalisco, Susan, and Izcalli Reyna. Daughter Ruth (Rolf Moeller) with grandchildren Kara, Russell (Julia Koniouchina), Jared; and great grandchildren Adam and James Moeller. Son Paul (Sheri Strang) with grandchildren Christopher, Jaycee, Jennifer (Christian Ayotte), Joan, Anngela, Jonathan; and great grandchildren Raina, Nolan, Haley, and Eagon Ayotte. Son Peter (Jenny Lyn Barrick) with grandchildren Owain and Brigham. Son Dale (Veronica Wood) with grandchildren Alexander, Preston and Cyrus. Joan was predeceased by her husband Paul, son Egon and daughter Karin Albers-Hopkins. There will be a viewing at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 10 Skyline Drive in Orillia, on Tuesday, March 26, from 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral service from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
