Everyone that ever met Lois knew how warm & friendly she was, and anyone who got to know her personally loved her………but I was the lucky girl that married her only son and got to have her as my mother-in-law. She instantly made me feel like part of the family, which isn’t easy to do when you live 5 provinces and 3000 miles away. I looked forward to the time that I could spend with her, never worrying about what we’d talk about or how we’d spend a lazy day together, she was that easy to be around! When they lived at Balsam Lake she would walk the loop every day so when we were there we’d take Sheeba and the kids and attempt to do the whole loop with her, we didn’t always make it….between neighbours and the critters in the forest there was just too much to stop for! She loved time spent with her church group and was a big part of raising money at their bazaars. She challenged herself with the Toronto Star weekly crossword puzzles, it would sit out on the table and she’d come and go with it all week till it was done or at least nearly done. She also loved to read (we spent many hours deep in our novels) and once finished we would put our initials up in the corner and leave it for somebody else to read. There was never a shortage of books at Lois Locey's house, that’s for sure! She was a fabulous knitter and made sure that every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren benefited from her creations. At Christmas time she always sent us a big tin of homemade cookies and bars in our box of Christmas gifts that arrived in Fort Langley every year, and she had the best knack for buying the exact perfect gifts! There would also be some of her knitted items in there, it might be tea towels that hung on the handle of the stove, Christmas tree ornaments, toques, mitts, sweaters, personalized Christmas stockings…well....the list goes on and on. These are the kind of memories that we’ll cherish now every time we wrap a baby in one of her blankets or hang one of her knitted ornaments on the Christmas tree.
When my own mother passed away 22 years ago, I looked to my mother in law for comfort, we had many heartfelt conversations and it drew us closer together. She really was an amazing lady! Over the last several years whenever we’d visit we’d see how much her health had declined from our previous visit. The dementia that was taking her away from us, that was difficult, that was the time when I mourned losing her. Now I feel that she can be herself again, in a place that she believed in and took great comfort in. The thought of her happy and smiling again; well…...that makes me happy again.

My heart is breaking and yet I know in my heart that Lois and Bill are together again as nothing could keep such loving souls apart! Our condolences and love to Ardith, Tom, Beth, and Jill and their families. We cannot attend the Memorial Celebration, however, we will be celebrating them both in our own way! What a wonderful dance it has been with them both!
