Obituary of Gordon Knifton
Knifton: Gordon George "Nifty"
(Nov. 2 1918 Toronto - March 3 2012 Kilworthy) Married 74 years to his true love Margaret Irene Knifton (nee Wright). Loving father of the late Connie, Bob and his wife Carol and Ron. Grandfather of Terry, David-predeceased, Tim and James and six great grandchildren. Son of the late John and Minnie. Predeceased by his brothers Ken and Harold. "Nifty" grew up in the great depression facing adversity, but faced these challenges head-on. He was hard-working, generous and loyal. He was a loving, devoted and caring husband and father. He was never shy about sharing his opinion (mostly low) about politicians, contemporary entertainment and modern technology. A proud WWII Veteran serving overseas in Italy and Holland with the Governor General's Horse Guards. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #302 Gravenhurst. "Nifty" retired from Draught Equipment Services at Brewer's Warehousing in 1983 to Margaret's homestead in Kilworthy. He enjoyed many happy years of retirement "puttering around" feeding his birds "squirrels", walking Rufus and enjoying his daily ration of homemade wine and beer.
Cremation has taken place. A Family "Get Together" is planned to remember "Nifty" which will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Bracebridge OSPCA would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
