I was very sad to hear of Mrs. Stacey's passing. I googled her recently as I had just moved back to Toronto, having been living in London, England, for the past many years. I always thought of her when visiting my parents' house, which is just a few streets south of her place on Dunblaine.
I had Mrs. Stacey as a teacher at Owen for Grades 5 and 6 and she was one of my favourite teachers. I have a 7 year old daughter and I often compare her teachers with teachers I had back at Owen - I don't think they make teachers now like they did back then. I think she had just the right balance of instruction, encouragement, discipline - and her lessons were always memorable. I remember we learned the song Boris the Spider by the Who (she said her son listened to the Who). I think she taught us nouns and verbs etc. using that song :)
I am sad she passed away before I could pop in and say hello after all these years. I ended up excelling in school, earning a bachelors, law degree and then an MBA. I practiced law at a hedge fund in London, England and lived in 6 different countries before coming back to Toronto. Mrs. Stacey definitely shaped that potential in my younger self and for that I'm grateful.
I'm not sure if other students have reached out, but I hope these words offer some comfort to you as you mourn her passing.

Dear David, I taught with your mom many years ago at Owen School, when you were living off Avenue Road. We enjoyed a few bridge games in that house and then your mom caught the Bridge Bug, and surged ahead of us. On occasion, I looked after the cat while she was in the UK. They were good times...I'm glad to know that she died gently and at home. My sympathy to you and your family, Penny Potter
