Obituary of Sylvia Kunert
Kunert, Sylvia (nee Crossley)
Sylvia took a final peaceful walk through her garden, surrounded by loved ones Monday, September 30th, 2024, at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Sylvia was the loved companion and wife to Heinz Kunert for 62 years and enjoyed celebrating her 25th and 50th anniversaries in style! She was the beloved mother and mentor to Tina and was the master chef to sons Micheal and Stephen (predeceased 1987). Tina and Terry Chatten’s children Curtis (Stephanie) and Caylee (Armaan), and Micheal and Debbie Kunert’s children Alexandra and Emma adored their Little Nana. She was also Nana, and great grandmother, to Curtis and Steph’s children Sophia and Noah. Sylvia was born into the Crossley family in Salford England, March 10th, 1941, to mother Ada and father Hubert. She was sister to the late Edna (Tom) Whittaker, Ron and Bridie (both deceased), Les and Joan, Eddie (deceased) and Scott, Sid, Frank and Paula (deceased), Jean (Mike) Bevin, the late Stan and Doreen, Alan (deceased) andTeejia, and Doreen (Joe) Millington (both deceased). As many of her brothers and sisters immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s, Sylvia left work as a seamstress at the CWS clothing factory and emigrated to Scarborough, Ontario. Living with her eldest sister Edna, she met Heinz. Married in 1962, Sylvia became the sister-in-law to Hans and Sandy Lorberg, Dagmar Balko and Eddie and Trudy Balko. Sylvia and Heinz soon left the bustle of Toronto, moving to a beautiful rural property ‘Up Medonte Way’. Heinz commenced building a wonderful home that Sylvia tended for life, cultivating gardens, flower beds and a small pond. Her final days at home saw Sylvia overlooking the pond - searching for cardinals, sipping coffee with Heinz and checking her iPad. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will take place graveside. If desired memorial donations to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
