Obituary of Christine Margaret Fishpool

Fishpool, Christine Margaret ( nee Griffiths) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Fishpool (nee Griffiths), aka Mama Fish, in her 81st year. She passed away peacefully at Mariposa House Hospice on August 23rd, 2024 with her family by her side. Beloved wife for over 60 years of the late Derek Fishpool (aka Papa Fish). Lovingly remembered by her children Annette (Pepe), Andrew (Joy), Suzanne, Kristi (Chris) and Jason (Alli), by her grandchildren Daniel (Cindy), Aidan (Chelsea), Claire (Trystin), Benji, Jayna, Liam, Ella, Connor, and Myles and by her great granddaughter, Clementine. Chris was born in Leeds, England in 1943 and was raised in Guisborough, England. She emigrated to Canada along with her family in 1974. Chris worked at a number of places over the years including Zellers, Dominion, the Highwayman Inn and finally finished her working years as a custodian at Patrick Fogarty Catholic School in Orillia where she worked alongside Derek for more than 15 years. She enjoyed exploring her creative side with things like knitting, paper tole and sketching. Keeping fit was important to her. She spent many hours at the YMCA where she enjoyed running the track and attending fitness classes. She completed several half marathons over the years. Zumba was one of her favourite activities and she loved dancing to Pitbull with her Zumba ladies. In her retirement, Christine enjoyed spending time with her family, her greatest treasure. A close second was her garden. Chris was always ready to lend a hand to anyone. She was very giving and charitable. She will always and forever be in our hearts and memories. She and Derek spent many hours walking hand in hand through the town chatting with friends and neighbours along the way. Even if you didn’t know them, you’ve probably seen them. They are together again, hand in hand, forever and always. We would like to thank the palliative care team that helped us to navigate this difficult journey once again. Thank you to Maki and Virginia and to Jessica at Bayshore. Emily Greb you are a wonderful person and we appreciate all you have done. To the staff and volunteers at Mariposa House Hospice, your kindness and empathy are unmatched. Friends and family are invited to join us in a celebration of Christine’s life at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E., Orillia (705) 327-0221 on Saturday September 7th, 2024, at 1:00 followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mariposa House Hospice or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
