Obituary of Jim Johnson
Johnson: James Howard ‘’Jim’’
Passed peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, at the age of 91. Jim was born in Midland, Ontario. Jim was extremely proud of his children Stephanie Locker and John Johnson (Paula), along with his grandchildren Katherine Locker, Patricia Locker, Alison Johnson and Brad Johnson. A fine athlete growing up, he was inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame for excellence in hockey, softball, and curling. Hockey was his favourite sport, and he suited up for the Oshawa Generals along with other minor pro teams in Canada and the USA. Jim was fan favourite everywhere he played for bone-crushing checks that caught larger opponents off guard due to his modest size. Jim was also musically inclined, played the piano and was an accomplished dancer (especially the Jitterbug). He was a passionate market gardener, and for decades his Midland farm and roadside stand was a popular destination for people seeking fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers. Many people knew Jim as ‘’Chickens’’, a nickname given by his teammates on the original Midland Oldtimers hockey team for his early life as a chicken farmer. Jim loved to spend his time at his farm talking with his loyal customers and he worked daily up until a few weeks ago. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends and customers. Cremation and a private celebration of life has taken place. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneral.ca. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
