Obituary of Marie Alice Stephen

Stephen, Alice Marie (nee James) Marie passed away peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on November 30, 2023, at the age of 87. Born in Barrie, Ontario to Harry & Clarice (nee Levick) James, the family soon after moved to Orillia, Ontario. Marie was a sibling to Cecil, Clifford and Gordon, all pre-deceased, and sisters Eileen (Eldon Shelp; deceased) and Shirley (Morley Nixon; deceased), wife of Ronald Stephen (deceased), mother of Charlotte (Randall Hawes), Blair, Bradley (Paula), grandmother of Michael and Christopher Stephen, Brian and Drew Hawes, Marlissa and Matthew Stephen, great-grandmother of Mackenzie, Madison, Owen, Nathaniel, and Lilah. As a young woman, Marie worked at Carter’s Restaurant where she met her future husband of 57 years, Ron Stephen. They married in 1955 and started raising a family. A few years later they built their home on Arthur Street, where they remained all their lives. While maintaining a household and raising her children, Marie volunteered on the Womens’ Auxiliary of the Canadian Racing Pigeon Union, The Sharing Place Food Bank, and the annual Coldwater Fall Fair. The family would like to thank the Leacock Care Centre, Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and Simcoe Funeral Home for their caring professionalism. After cremation, a private funeral will be held at a later date.
