Obituary of Dan Cusson
Cusson, Daniel Vernon
Passed away peacefully in his sleep, on October 11, 2023, at his home in Orillia, ON at the age of 65. Dan was coping with a severe case of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease over the last few years. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his two granddaughters; Summer and Aspyn of Levack, ON; his stepdaughter, Crystal Laidlaw of Kamloops, BC, his sisters; Cecile (Cusson) Courvoisier, Maggi (Cusson) Romanko, both of Orillia, ON, brothers Cliff Cusson of Montreal, PQ, Tim Cusson of London, ON and Randy Cusson of West Kelowna, BC.
He is predeceased by his son Thor Cusson of Levack, ON, his parents Aurele Cusson and Verna (Wreggitt) of Chelmsford/Orillia ON, his sister Gerry (Cusson) Courvoisier, Orillia, ON, brothers Louis Cusson, Burlington, ON, and Dennis Cusson, Chelmsford, ON.
Dan was born in Sudbury, Ontario on June 5th, 1958. He was the baby of Aurele and Verna’s family of nine children, who were living in Dowling, Ontario at that time. The family moved to a small farm 2 miles east of Chelmsford in 1960, concession 5, lot 9 (Dans cinq). Dan spoke French as well as English and went to MacDonald Cartier French speaking high school in Azilda, ON. Later he took a masonry course at Cambrian College in Sudbury, ON. He married Cheryl Laidlaw in Sudbury on October 17th, 1980, and lived in Sudbury, then moved to Ottawa. In 1999 he moved to Calgary. He retired in 2017 and then moved to Orillia, ON and was living at the Tudhope Manor Retirement Residence on Peter Street when he passed.
Dan will be remembered for his quick wit, hardy laugh, a wee bit of stubbornness and a fair amount of procrastination. Dan was a great storyteller, and he loved a good joke. He was a master stone mason and brick layer. He built many beautifully crafted stone homes and fireplaces during his career. He was a great wood carver, a master Sudoku player, and played the harmonica.
There will be a celebration of life in Orillia ON, on Saturday October 21st 2023 from
