Obituary of Fern Eleanor Gilchrist
Gilchrist, Fern Eleanor (nee Payne)
Fern Gilchrist died at the Leacock Care Center on Thursday, September 22 at the age of 92. Fern was the wife of the late Stanley Gilchrist (1990) and the late Charles Softley. Fern was the mother of Bonnie Hill (Michael) of Orillia and Richard Gilchrist of Toronto. Fern leaves behind two granddaughters whom she adored: Stephanie Dunn (Sam) of Orillia and Erin Hill (Adam Mullins) of West Chester, Pennsylvania. These girls lit up Fern’s life as she loved them beyond words. She was in awe of their talents and achievements – bragging shamelessly to everyone she met. Fern was a grandmother extraordinaire. Fern was blessed with four great-grandchildren – Fiona and Eleanor Dunn and Bronwen and Elliott Mullins. Fern was the sister of Mildred Smith, Clarence Payne, Betty Thomson (all pre-deceased) and Doris Faux. Fern was the sister-in-law of Harold, Ted and Don Gilchrist (all pre-deceased). She is survived by brothers-in-law John Smith, Bill Thomson and sisters-in-law, Lena Gilchrist and Barbara Neemre. Fern will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Sincere appreciation to the Leacock Care Center (HA3) for the wonderful care given to Fern. There will be no funeral or celebration of life as requested by Fern. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the CNIB Foundation through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St E Orillia (705) 327-0221.
