To Gary's family and friends: Please know that the Ontario risk and insurance industry mourn with you. Gary had a great impact on so many of us!
Gary Vamplew was a man with a passion for risk management ..... but first and foremost he loved people! Gary made everyone feel like he had known you forever. He seemed to love the risk and insurance industry, loved to mentor and loved to tell stories.....and he always had a story! When he taught, he brought Risk Management to life. Thousands of us were blessed to study our CRM at
U of T under the tutelage of a dynamic trio of instructors: Gary Vamplew, Tony Bridger and Susan Meltzer...a combo that has never been duplicated! They were each instrumental in instilling in me and many others, a passion for RM as young professionals. Between them they had a treasure trove of stories told in such individualistic ways……I looked so forward to my classes every week and never forgot the lessons of those stories!
Gary was also a big supporter of the Insurance Institute, acting as proctor and exam coordinator for many years into his retirement, ensuring that those north of Toronto had a place closer to home to write exams.
Personally, Gary was a mentor and friend- always cheering me on throughout my career and my volunteer life with ORIMS and later RIMS. Rest in peace Gary.... and know you left your own special mark on this industry and your friends. I am forever grateful for knowing you.
Prayers and sincerest sympathies to his extended family and friends. Gary will be missed by many.
Tina Gardiner, a grateful mentee.
