I was deeply saddened to learn a week ago of Shawn's passing, after having had the privilege of knowing him for a number of years, and particularly over the course of the past year after meeting up with him again last summer. I also had the more recent privilege of speaking with him on several occasions while he was participating in a treatment program here in Orillia, and was especially pleased and proud to be in attendance for his graduation from that program just a few short weeks ago. We agreed at that time that we would meet up again as soon as some of the current distancing restrictions were lifted. Shawn's determination to be healthy was inspiring to me, and I applaud the effort he made to achieve this, because of the struggles he has had over the years to gain recovery. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, with the hope that you will all be sustained by the wonderful memories you have of this very wonderful person! I am immensely grateful that Shawn let me be part of his life.
