Mr. Lasage taught me calculus for the first time in my life at Georgian College in 2011. I only got to know Jack over the course of one college semester but he left a lasting impression. I can still remember Jack explaining an infinite series by walking half the distance towards a wall and emphasizing how he will never actually reach the wall. I will always remember him as a great math teacher and a good man.

But more important than that was that he made me feel like I mattered. He spent time with me and guided me at a time in my life that I needed the most. I’ve never forgotten that. He was far greater than just a math teacher. I have a heart of gratitude and love. Rest In Peace Mr Lesage. Val

My deepest condolences to the LeSage family - this was such a shock, I don't know why but I always thought he would live forever. I lost my father in May last year at the age of 84 and 58 years of marriage with my mom, so I truly understand your pain. I first met Jack in 2000 when he taught Math in Academic Upgrading at Georgian College. He was such an admired mentor and inspiration to all who crossed his path. Later, I worked with him when he taught Math for Life Sciences in the General Arts and Sciences Program. His smile and kind heart touched mine. We would cross paths at church on Sunday and I admired how he and Mary would walk to church. Take comfort in knowing that he was a wonderful man who touched so many lives, including mine. RIP Jack. xo

Dear Mary and Family,
Bill and I want you to know how very sorry we are that Jack has passed- I think we thought that he would always be there , that he would never stop smiling, never stop offering wise advice if we needed it, and never stop being a true Christian.
I was always astounded that I could be counted as one of his friends!Because everyone in 'the math world' knew and deeply respected him - as evidenced by the many condolences by math luminaries.
I knew him a math co-writer on several projects and later as a fellow associate professor at Daemen College. He was part of my Dream Team! What fun we had!
As we teachers all know, the most meaningful messages have come from his students because from them we know that we have really made a difference - not only in math understanding but in sharing and exemplifying the best values.
With all of his awards & achievements , it was still his family and dear Mary that he treasured the most.
We loved him,we were enriched by knowing him and we are truly thankful for his life
These days I can see him patiently showing Saint Peter how to use Agetiles!
With much love

Dear Mary and family,
I was so very sorry to hear of Jack's sudden passing. What a shock and a sad loss for all of you. I have so many wonderful memories of working with Jack. He was the favourite of many of our students, who thanked him for his help so they could understand Math. Whether he was nailing pizza boxes to the wall to explain some theory, or kneeling on the floor beside a desk to explain a concept, Jack was an amazing supporter of learners of every age and stage.
I really appreciated the annual Christmas tradition of eating Mary's delicious baking, and we truly missed Jack after his official retirement from Georgian College.
My sincere condolences in your loss. I can imagine it has been an overwhelming time for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

I hope that Mary, Mike, and your extended families and friends will (someday, if not immediately) find comfort in all that we have gained from Mr./Jack LeSage. He embodied his literal surname, "The Wise (One)". He was singular, a mentor for some dearest to me, and for so many more beyond Mike and Eastview's Class of 1979. . . . I nodded with many condolences here, especially 2 self-descriptions by our classmates, Laurie Cumming (b. Bast) and Karen Mair (Thursday 10/1).
Furthermore, as a Mountbatten neighbour (very briefly), I learned to call him "Jack"; and as a non-Catholic, I rejoiced in how his formation and even vocation extended through St. Mary's and Roman Catholic social theology. Although a famous poem in the Hebrew Bible praises the superlative woman (Proverbs 31), Jack has nurtured likewise, remarkably: he has brought profit, not loss,/ All the days of life (verse 12), provided food for family and tasks for students (15), calculated finances (16), extended arms to the needy ones (20), clothed all in strength and dignity (26), opened his mouth with wisdom,/ and the teaching of kindness (26). May Mr./Jack LeSage’s works praise him from Barrie to Orillia and . . . beyond even heavenly gates (27-31)!

I would like to pass along my heartfelt condolences to the family on the passing of Jack. I first met Jack LeSage on the rugby field at Eastview Secondary School in 1985 as a fourteen year old playing for the school. Throughout my life I connected with Jack on many different occasions and was always greeted with his warm smile and laugh.
In my adult life, I became a teacher at Georgian College and later on in my career Jack came to teach a couple of math courses as a way to continue to keep active. I remember his bike helmet and active lifestyle and it was a wonder to many colleagues in the area who came to know him. To me he was just the same Jack who I first met in high school with the warm smile and laugh. I quite enjoyed our time together at Georgian College and the conversations we would have about years past.
Jack Lesage will be greatly missed but take solace in knowing that he touched many lives including mine. He was a genuine and caring man who always had time for people and I will not forget this about him.
Best wishes,

Dear Jeanne, Joanne, Mary and family,
So sorry to hear of your Dad, Jack's, passing. I hope you all had some time with him recently and over the holidays. Looks like he waited until Epiphany to make his exit. Somehow beautifully timed. And I can't help but think there is a little humour and a hearty Lesage laugh echoing in the wake of his departure - that on Epiphany, the day of appearances, he disappears from this world. May he be escorted by three wise men, take his place with the big benevolent spirits and continue to radiate warmth and love from above and beyond.
And may your hearts be held with tenderness, love and gentle compassion through the loss, grief and memories of how he has touched your lives and the lives of so many.
I wish I could be there in person to give you a big hug, have a good cry and toast to the legacy of Jack. I was just in Ontario and flew back to BC on Jan 9. You are very dear to me and feel like extended family. Please know that my thoughts, sympathies and love are with you all.
Jeanne, your presence at the funerals of my Grandmother and Uncle John, some years ago, meant so much to me and really helped me get through the surrealness of death and funerals. Allow yourself to be held and receive all the love and heart felt support being generously given to you at this time.
with much love,

Neil and I are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Jack. We wish you much peace and love as you transition in his absence. May your happy memories of Jack soothe your sorrow.
And may these beautiful words of Kahlil Gibran bring you comfort:
"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

Although I only had one or two math courses with him as my teacher, he was a wonderful role model for a teen trying to find her way in the social milieu of high school - a steadfast yet sincere teacher and mentor who sought to bring out the best in his young students through patience, guidance, sometimes humour and always care.

My sincere condolences to the family. This is a great loss. I remember Jack when he was a referee in Knights of Columbus football at St. Monica's. The way he counted the steamboats was clear, loud, precise. I always appreciated his good humour and reason. A community man, a great teacher, and someone who believed in the good of people. He will be missed.

I am very sad to hear this news.
Mr. LeSage was the teacher that impacted me the most at Eastview . I’m sorry to say that I still dislike math but often think of him and his teaching.
My friend and I referred to him as Mr. SeLage and when I hear/see the last name I always think of the twinkle in his eye and smile at the memories we have.
Sincerely
Sandie

Mary and Family,
We are greatly saddened to know of the passing of Jack.
A man so well loved and respected by many. We were honoured to be his friends.
Jack always had a radiant smile and kind word. We are left with happy memories of occasions spent with Jack and Mary.
As fate would have it we were pleased to have a lovely visit and chat on Christmas morning at Guardian Angels Church
with Jack, Mary, and visiting family. We see it now as a special blessing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Theresa and Frank Matys
