At Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Saturday October 6th 2018 in his 95th year. Gord is predeceased by his beloved long time companion Joan Hangaard and his previous wife Jean McKinney. Much loved father of Agnes Johnston (Nelson). Predeceased by his son Gordon John Merkley and his wife Joan. Cherished grandfather of Suzanne, Tina, Nelson Jr., Lisa and Mandy. Great grandfather of 8. Dear brother of Bill (Marion-predeceased), Gayle (Bert-predeceased). He is also predeceased by his siblings Ross (Doris), Lloyd (Ilene), Shirley and Harvey (Bonnie). He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gord was a proud veteran of WWII and a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34 in Orillia. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Gord’s life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St. E Orillia.
