I met Bob early 70s. He was hired by CPR to work the dining cars as 4th cook (“pearl diver”, being to his armpits washing dishes). He eventually moved up to 3rd and 2nd cook. Then at VIA Rail he worked as a Service Attendant on the corridor trains. He was well loved and respected by passengers and his colleagues. Bob used to lend me a key to his house so I could crash for the night when I had to work back to back trips as I lived two hours away. He was my Pal, a true friend and will be missed. RIP Buddy...

Bob and I attended Durham District High School and wasted 2 years at Conestoga College. After college we hitched a ride to BC, then jumped a rail car to Prince George to visit a college pal. Thumbed our way back to Vancouver. Bob thought he might find work there. I was almost broke so started hitch hiking home. Next time I saw him he was back in Ontario working for the railroad.
I am sorry we lost track of each other. Have many good memories of Bob.
RIP Bob

Cousin Bob
Always cheerful, and armed with a joke and a mischievous grin, Bob made me look forward to family reunions. As a kid, he had stories about the railway, and life in Toronto which seemed like a fantasy - and I'm sure he added a little zest here and there. If we judge a man by how he treats others, Bob was a true gentleman. Last time I saw him we were properly drunk after playing golf, laughing and having a blast with my Dad and Jack - couldn't think of a better way to remember him. RIP Cousin Bob.
