Obituary of Richard Cornish
Richard (Dick) John Cornish
May 17, 1922 - April 30, 2012
Peacefully in his 90th year with family by his side. Husband of the late Nancy Cornish (née Lightborn), father of Harvey, Barbara and Peter, grandfather to Benjamin, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Jenica and Heather. Richard was a gentle, kind soul with a sweet smile and subtle wit. Lovingly remembered for his love of painting, birdsong, dogs, trains, chocolate and Springtime. Also known for his playful, affectionate banter with children and adults alike, Richard inspired us all to live in the present with honesty and forthrightness. Richard was a veteran of WW2, having served with pride in the North Atlantic on HMS Stonetown from 1939-1944. His children and grandchildren now scattered widely, extend thanks to the warm and caring staff at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia who have served unfailingly as his adoptive family since 2007. An informal gathering will be held at Simcoe Funeral Home, Orillia Chapel, 38 James St. E., Orillia, Ontario on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's name to the Canadian Mental Health Association at: https://www.helpforcharities.com/cmha/index.php
