We all loved Bill. He was instrumental in getting my first steam engine up and running. We had only just met, but Bill jumped right in and built some vital accessories needed to get me steaming. I am guessing that his English sense of humour would permit me to refer to him as the "Salt of the Earth", which indeed he was. He will be sadly missed by friends and family.

We will always remember Bill, our friend and neighbour. A nice chat with Bill was a good excuse to take a rest from yardwork, raking or shoveling snow. He will truly be missed.

It was great sadness we read of Bill's passing today (7th October 2011) We had known Bill for some years through our many visits to the track of the RHLS, and did one year visit him in his home. We were treated like Royalty rather than just to visitors from the UK. Bill always had a good sense of humour, even lately despite his illness, he was what I would call a real asset to whatever group he belonged to and a great friend to whoever he met. Yes, Bill was a great model builder as well and did introduce even me to some direction changing ideas within the hobby of locomotive building. God rest you Bill and may you enjoy the hobby even more now you are without the problems of life on this earth. Very kind wishes to the family. Linda & Stan Bishop (Staines Society of Model Engineers UK)
